"CHESS –An Art of Life Workshop was brought to life at the Russian Centre in Colombo, on the 21st of September, hosting over 140 students of numerous schools across the nation. The session was conducted by Mr. Udara Hewagama and Mr. Ushan Samarakone, chess instructors of the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre in Colombo. Additionally, Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, the president and chief instructor of the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club, 10 Times Women’s National Chess Champion, First and only Chess Olympiad Gold Medalist in Sri Lanka, First Woman Fide Master and the First Woman Fide Instructor in the country was felicitated by Madam Anastasia Khokhlova, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka/Director of the Russian Centre in Colombo and Mr. Buddhapriya Ramanayaka, CEO of the Russian Centre in Colombo, for the immense service rendered in promoting Chess among the locals."
